Boyfriend Jean Obsesed

27 Mar

I’m well aware that this isn’t a new trend, but I am loving it with a whole new appreciation this time around. I love laid back styles while still looking chic as ever. The boyfriend jean – in my opinion – is the epitome of that. Especially in these cooler times while we wait for the Spring and Summer season to bless us with warmth. There is a perfect boyfriend jean out there for everyone, it just takes a bit of searching and a bit of an open mind. Boyfriend jeans with a loose tee, and Oxford shoes or sneakers are perfect for running errands, throw on some pumps, switch out the top, and you’re ready for drinks with the girls. How do you style your boyfriend jeans?

Outfit of the day: Winter be gone!

18 Mar

Hey lovelies!!

Hope you are all doing fabulous! Aren’t you excited for this snow to be finally gone? I cannot wait to stop wearing my coat and show off all the spring styles that are currently being kept in the corner of my closet haha. I try wearing it out time to time but I end up getting so cold plus I get the ol’ “isn’t it too cold for you to be wearing that?” Ha! Anyways, darlings now that hibernation season is coming to an end I am so ecstatic to get the fun colours out and finally be able to wear a flat or two outside.

Talk soon! 🙂

Jennifer Lawrence for Dior

13 Mar

Hello fashion friends!

I (K) am a huge fan of Jennifer Lawrence. This girl is a star, and believe me when I say that we are going to be seeing a lot of her not only this year, but in the years to come. She is an absolutely phenomenal actress, with her feet in not 1, but 2 multi million dollar productions; The Hunger Games and the well-known X-Men series. Not to mention her latest Oscar-winning performance in Silver Lining’s Playbook alongside Bradley Cooper. At 22 years young, this girl is killing it! It was no wonder Dior absolutely had to have her as the newest face of Dior. She’s young, independent, strong, motivated and fashionable. The innocence in Jennifer’s face made her the ideal candidate for photographer Willy Vanderperre to represent the strong femininity of Dior.

As beautiful as the black and white photos are, I’m personally in favor of the color. I just love the flush in her cheeks, and those beautiful eyes. Of course, the purse tends to make a bit of a statement as well 😉

“Dior represents beauty and strength in women..and..that’s how I feel when I’m wearing his clothes, it just, makes you feel so confident.” – Jennifer Lawrence

Cassie for ASOS April 2013

6 Mar

So. I (K) kind of love everything r&b singer Cassie is about. I can’t lie, I don’t know where she’s been hiding out music wise; but she seems to be everywhere BUT on the radio. Magazine covers, concerts, club appearances, award shows, front row at fashion shows!?

Who can blame her? This girl’s look is hard to ignore. Not only is she blessed genetically with a beautiful face, and glowing skin, but how about those enviable facial features such as those sexy cat eyes and full lips? Add on a rockin body, great voice and hey, why not shave off the sides of her head for one of the most impressive mohawks we’ve seen since Rihanna circa 2009

Cassie was recently chosen to be featured in the new April issue of ASOS magazine, and I am loving the edgy style Cassie is giving me. Can I buy a jar of this confidence somewhere?cassisasos cassie2 cassie3

March Motivation!

2 Mar

Every day is a chance for a new beginning, but there’s just something about the beginning of the month, isn’t there? March, to me (K) signifies the true coming of Spring. Before you know it, I’ll realize that I haven’t had the need to wear my winter jacket in a week, the salt on my boots will fade, and my gloves will feel rather lonely at the bottom of my purse. I’ll find myself shedding layers, losing the thick knit scarf, and Oh! What is this?! A winter pudge? It’s time to get back in shape ladies. Remember that promise you made to yourself about going back to the gym and eating better? Yeah..that one. Hold yourself to it!

There’s a buzz in the air, windows are being filled with bright colors and prints, dresses, skirts, and those super cute skinny jeans; perfect for cuffing on the bottom and rocking that fitted top at Zara you’ve had your eye on. We all know the feeling of not being confident enough to wear something we love because of recent weight gain, or simply not being in the shape you once were. Last year was the first year that I personally was confident enough to wear shorts outside of my bedroom. Spring was rolling around, and I committed to a better lifestyle. No diets. I wanted to get rid of the heavy feeling I had after eating, become more active and lose my muffin top and slim my thighs. I am just under 5 feet tall, so I have a small torso where all my weight tends to gather. Spin classes, weight training, and good ol’ fashioned running helped me to lose 18 pounds. However, the biggest change I made was in my eating habits. No soda. No juice. Much less sugar and dairy products and more vegetables. There are so many healthy alternatives, and while I still indulge in my love of chocolate (which I’ll never give up), a cheeseburger here and there and ice cream. It’s all about balance and being aware of what you’re putting into your body. I still live my life, I just don’t mindlessly eat whatever is placed in front of me – I am conscious of what’s in my food

Spring into action, and get moving! My take on weight loss and overall health is pretty simple. Move more, eat greens, consume less sugar and salt, and don’t completely deprive yourself of the foods you love. Living a healthy life is it’s own reward. Feeling good inside will always reflect on the outside. You not only feel lighter, but your immune system becomes stronger, you make better decisions, and your stress level is down! Who doesn’t want that? But you do have to work for it, and it isn’t easy; especially in the beginning. If you don’t actually want to change your life and your body, nothing will work. The first step is deciding that you won’t settle for less than what you feel you deserve from your body. Your state of mind must be in shape before your body can get into shape. Take it from the people we watch the most; celebrities! They are people just like you and I, they gain weight and lose weight just like us; but one of the biggest differences between most celebrities and common folk (like me., haha) is that they have a relentless desire to maintain their figures – not only for the obvious reasons such as movie roles, photo shoots, and appearances; but because they feel and perform best when their health is in check and their bodies are at their highest potential.

What motivates you to get off your office chair and get into the gym? What foods do you find help to lift your mood and maintain a healthy lifestyle? Please share!

J&K on the Best Dressed at the 2013 Oscar’s Awards

25 Feb

Did you catch The Oscar’s last night? I have to say, I was personally looking forward to it for some time; especially when I found out that Seth Macfarlene would be hosting. For those who don’t know, I (K) am a big fan of Family Guy and American Dad…and to be honest just most cartoons in general. Haha, my opinion on his performance? I did enjoy most of his jokes; however it was a bit awkward to see the reaction from the audience full of actors and celebrities who he has brutally humiliated and/or made fun of on his well-known cartoon. (Awkward much?) I did love his small tap dance bit with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Daniel Radcliffe, great opening.

My (J) highlight of the night was ARGO winning Best Picture!! I cannot begin to express how proud I am that this film won! Ben Affleck not only directed this film but also was the lead actor. I remember watching this film with K right when it came out! I was filled with much anticipation to see how this movie was going to play out especially when Canada played such a great role in helping the Americans in a time of need. This film was absolutely incredible! To see countries helping out each other even when it may put they themselves in danger and just overall how we can be compassionate with one another is all I need to see. Much deserved, well done ARGO! 🙂

Enough small talk! Onto the fashion! Who was your favorite? Who didn’t deliver? Here’s our scoop!

Jessica Chastain glowed in this beaded rose gold dress by Armani Privecustom, might we add. Coincidentally enough; Jessica Rabbit styled tresses and Hary Winston jewels. We need not mention her captivating performance in Zero Dark Thirty

Jennifer Lawrence WON my heart in a Dior Haute Couture dress and Brian Atwood shoes. Jennifer also won for Best Actress in a Lead Role for Silver Linings Playbook. I am pretty much obsessed with everything this woman does. I love her simple beauty, I think she is a phenomenal actress and she is only going up from here (K)

Charlize Theron stopped us dead in our tracks in this absolutely beautiful Christian Dior Haute Couture dress. Not only does this dress flatter her stunning figure; but this pixie cut! This woman is MADE for short hair. She has a flawless complexion and fantastic bone structure. Not to mention, she is just plain beautiful. We are LOVING this!

Amy Adams showed up in this beautiful light hued Oscar de la Renta gown. Nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Master. I’m (K) personally a fan of lavish and extravagant gowns at events such as The Oscars, so this was a big win for me. I love the almost feathery detail and the sleeveless just flatters her petite frame so well

Kerry Washington in MIU MIU. I’m a HUGE Kerry Washington fan (K), and I absolutely loved the movie Django, however I have to say that for some odd reason, on Kerry’s last few appearances – this woman just cant seem to have some decent pictures taken! At the Grammy’s, she looked beautiful but the pictures just didn’t show her off enough! All that aside. I love this dress on her. I adore the embellishment at the top. Kerry has a small frame and therefore the sleeveless option, I think, was the right call. The color is right on trend, and the train length was just right for the occasion.

*gasp* Now this…this right here is hands down one of my favorites of the night. Amanda Seyfried in an intricate custom made Alexander McQueen gown, Lorraine Schwartz jewels (of course), and Roger Viver shoes. Amanda knocked it out of the park for me. Does my love for her have something to do with her phenomenal performance in Les Miserables? Perhaps. But none the less, who can be mad at a custom-made McQueen?? Beautiful neckline showing off her fantastic arms and that body! Win. Win. Win

Now. Seeing Anne Hathaway win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Les Miserables had me on my feet. Her role as Fontine had me in tears and she performed incredibly. Her dress wasn’t a #1 choice for me, however as the night went on; it sort of grew on me. Wearing this Prada duchesse satin column gown, I do feel that the light pink color suited her complexion and short, dark hair. It brought out her beautiful face and that amazing smile. I just wish she lost that necklace! I admire the risk she took switching to this dress 3 hours before arriving and did I mention the risqué nipple detail? Oh Anne..(K)

Well! Those are our winners of the night on the red carpet. Do you agree?

Powder Puff Event

12 Feb

I had the pleasure of meeting Emily Weiss from Into The Gloss blog! She was absolutely stunning that night and she is so down to earth and open to everyone!

How did we meet exactly?

Well Holt Renfrew, a leading luxurious fashion specialty department store in Toronto was hosting the Powder Puff event in collaboration with Mercedes Benz. The Powder Puff event was like a beauty parlour for all the beauty fanatics out there!

All guests were introduced to the new launches of Nars and Laura Mercier Spring cosmetic collections, treated to manicures, makeup brush cleansing, oeuvres, consultations by ALL makeup lines such as Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Guerlain, Cle de Peau, Burberry, Dior, and so on. They were many options! Here are a few photos of all the booths set up!

Holt Renfrew had brought in Emily Weiss as their special guest to talk about all the latest Spring beauty must haves of the season! Lisa Tant, former Flare editor in chief, who is now the Fashion Editor at Holt Renfrew interviewed Emily about all beauty essentials for Spring and Emily spoke about her latest obsessions which are bold brows and bold lip colours!

After all the beauty prep you received Holt Renfrew also provided this very chic vanity photo booth set up where we got to take photos of our finished looks!

Did I mention there was a DJ?

Oh it was a fanastic and very successful night! I had the best time and the highlight of the night was definitely meeting Emily!

Does this fit?

2 Feb

Have you ever had those moments where you’re out shopping, you find something that will look fantastic, you go to try it on and it has potential but just doesn’t fit right?

Well don’t even think to put that blouse, pant, or dress back on that rack! It’s amazing what a simple alteration can do for YOU!

Embarassingly enough, I’ve only really starting realizing now that this is THE secret to clothing! One thing that makes that pleated skirt, that too wide coat, and so on to make it look amazing on you is to alter it! I mean seriously if I had known this sooner my wardrobe would have been a lot more full than it is now. It’s actually quite unfortunate that no celebrity stylist expresses this key point to making an outfit look great on you! I was lucky enough to realize this from working as a personal shopping assistant, where literally all our clients alter everything to make it work for them!

I mean look at celebrities when they take something from the catwalk and alter it to their liking and it looks stunning on them at that special award show? Always wondered why it looked different from the runway? Well that’s why! To tailor a clothing piece is probably the easiest and best way to make an outfit look great for your body proportions.

So do not EVER get frustrated with something not looking the way you want it to because now you know an alteration may be the perfect solution for you!

I currently have a lace skirt that is in need of an alteration and once that’s done you’ll be seeing my post! Stay tuned 🙂

xx J
