The Nutcracker

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the Nutcracker at the National Ballet of Canada. One thing you might not know about me is my obsession with the Nutcracker. This past Christmas I watched The Nutcracker films, listened to the Nutcracker Orchestra soundtrack every night, literally. Ever since I was a little girl I enjoyed the Nutcracker to its fullest and having the chance to see it live was an absolute dream come true!

The ballet was fantastic! I always get drawn into the costumes! All the glitter and sequins worn by the Snow Queen and the Sugar Plum Fairy. All the 19th century attire worn by the children and families in the first act! Not to mention the masks and makeup on the Nutcracker himself, the Fox, the Bee and all the many other characters at the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Kingdom!

Once the doors were opened at the theatre, walking in felt like I was stepping into my imagination, back to when I was a little girl with her Nutcracker by her side. The set was unbelievable! It was so magical and the creativity that goes into creating this story was incredible!

Oh and the music!! The Orchestra was heaven! It just brings peace and happiness to me. Listening to the violins, clarinets, flutes, basses, etc has a way of calming me down.

Now to the most important part, all the dancers! The ballerinas moves were so delicate, smooth and graceful. They were all so elegant and their postures were impeccable.

Honestly it makes me appreciate and want to support the Arts even more, it seems like Toronto has so much to offer but I feel like it’s not promoted enough. There’s not much awareness so I hope this post opens your eyes to all that Toronto has to give to its citizens and tourists!
