Friends!

How can we begin to apologize for our absence? Telling you we’ve both been busy would be an understatement. We haven’t had much of a social life, and have had such a hard time even making time to see each other! The summer weather was hiding from us over here in Toronto for the longest time making photo ops difficult to schedule, and working overtime has become the norm. We’ve been grinding as much as we could in preparation for this trip we’re taking! If any of you follow us on Twitter, you’ll know that Julie and I are going to Paris & Barcelona this month! We actually leave in a few days! It is our first time to both cities, and we are overwhelmingly excited to share our experiences with you!

Working so much has definitely put its wear on us, and we can’t wait to have some much-needed time off, and get back to posting! With less than a week away before our trip, like any girl, we have been constantly thinking of what to wear, when to wear it, what to bring, where to go, what to see, what to skip. Luggage, beauty essentials, tickets, boarding passes, passports, double-check tickets, get nails done, get hair done…whoo. Add on a full on work week, studying, eating, gymming, emails, meetings….and somewhere we manage to fit in sleep. Julie and I miss seeing each other more often, and the both of us are looking forward to spending a lot of gal time together on vacation. This is a trip of a lifetime that we have been talking about forever, and it’s finally here.

Just wanted to drop a note to let you know that we’re sticking around, and we miss you. How are you?!

More posts are on their way! TTYL

College

23 Jan

Hello, hello!

We headed down to College Street a few days ago on what we thought at the time, was one of the coldest days of the year, for a little lunch and window shopping. We were lucky enough to catch the last of the sunlight and got a few shots in with our new Canon T3i camera. What do you think? College Street, quite specifically Little Italy, is one of our favorite areas in Toronto; known for locally owned shops, boutiques and of course restaurants. Some of our favorites are below

One of the best brunch spots I (K) know? – Aunties & Uncles (cheap, cheerful & delicious- on a Sunday morning around 11am? Expect a bit of line up)

How about some of the best corn on the cob you’ll ever taste? La Carnita’s is a must (GREAT street art decor!)

Don’t have much going on Friday night? Head over to Riva Supper Lounge for a fabulous night out with friends! Great place for some Italian cuisine with exposed brick interior, then head to the back room where booths are set up and the DJ plays the best Top 40 and Trance!

Of course, we can’t forget about the best gelato in the city at Dolce Gelato (Cream Cacao for J and Pistachio for K)

Looking to have a cosmo with the girls? Head over to Eat My Martini

Where are some of your favorite spots on College?

The History Behind Halston Heritage

3 Jan

Hello friends!

Welcome to the new year! How did you celebrate? I’ll tell you how I spent a few hours the day before 2013 officially arrived. I spent it reading all about the history behind Halston Heritage, as I’ve always been interested in what they were about. I have yet to be disappointed in a piece of clothing from Halston. Every time I see a piece on a beautiful woman or blogger (Wendy from Wendys Lookbook rocks this jumpsuit flawlessly here), I find myself wondering how Halston began. Roy Halston Frowick catered to luxurious American fashion of the 1970’s, using some of my personal favorite fabrics such as cashmere, suede and jersey. (Who doesn’t seriously love the soft versatility of jersey?) He is known as the father of minimalism, using simple pared-down silhouettes with flow and movement. His clientelle included such names as Andy Warhol, Bianca Jagger, and Elizabeth Taylor. Did you know that Roy Halston is the man behind the legendary design of the “pillbox” hat? He actually designed the one Jacqueline Kennedy wore in the 1960’s.

Taking a look at Halston’s Pre-Spring 2013 collection, it’s clear to see why celebs such as Sarah Jessica Parker, and Miley Cyrus are fans. Modern design with clean lines, comfortable fabrics, and for lack of a better word – the looseness! All of these pieces are so beautiful in their own way. From the neutral shades to the pops of color – and offer such comfortability in wear. While Halston also caters to those looking for a tight little dress for that night out, I’m sure we can all agree that we love to look chic while not having to worry about sucking it in. (Hello!) halstonps2 I would love to own a piece from Halston Heritage. I am especially loving the orange on orange leather and cashmere combo, as well as that absolutely beautiful sequined jacket. What are your favorite pieces?halstonps4halstonps4halstonps3

Roy Halston Frowick passed away in March of 1990 and his legacy lives on through his team based out of Los Angeles. Check out the rest of the collection and more at Halston.com

Happy New Year from J&K

2 Jan

Happy New Year!

We are both so excited for this new year, and due to the extraordinary amount of excitment we both have; we skipped the long lines, the $100 entry fees, the gin and tonic spills, and the headache of having to flag a cab down home and stayed inside like little ol’ ladies. We know. What?

This is the first year in a long time, that we haven’t strutted our stuff on the dance floor as the clock runs down. Don’t think we’re getting comfortable, because we love a night out. Everything came down to just poor timing, and honestly?..$100+ to get into some okay club, when we would much rather spend that money at Zara (or Club Monaco, Sephora, J.Crew, etc., you get the picture) was just all we could think of when Dec.30th rolled around.

Julie was lovely enough to have me and one of our close girlfriends over for a home cooked dinner, some champagne, and good ol’ Ryan Seacrest hosting in Times Square. We sat down and felt grateful for another year and felt the anticipation of the year to come. A lot of change has come in 2012, and we look forward to sharing all of our experiences with you this 2013. Some of our resolutions include seeing friends and family more often, upgrading our wardrobes, posting and meeting other bloggers, saving up, and travelling. Of course, we can’t forget about the classic resolutions such as “eating better and being fit”, right? Haha, you can expect a bit of that from us as well. Do you have any resolutions?

The new Yorkdale

14 Nov

Hello !

Those in the know, know that Yorkdale is most definitely one of Toronto’s greatest malls to shop in. The best, in my opinion – and with the announcement of it’s $185 million renovation last year, this mall is sure to be an absolute show-stopper come this Friday.November.16th. This mall is home to some our favorite retailers such as H&M, Zara (one of the best in Toronto), Aritzia, The Bay, Holt Renfrew, Tiffany & Co, J.Crew, Tory Burch, the list goes on. Can it get any better? Of course! Yorkdale is expanding and bringing along some of my personal favorite retailers including Kate Spade New York, LOFT, and Anthropologie. It’s been a few years since I’ve lived in New York, but I can tell you from personal experience that I am really excited about not having to wait for my next trip down to the big apple to shop at Kate Spade and LOFT since now I’ll only be half an hour away!

Julie and I are also absolutely loving the new ad’s released by Yorkdale; let alone the slogan “Be Inspired”. Perfect for any shopping trip. These ads are starring Coco Rocha. Not only is Coco one of our favorite models, she’s Canadian! Coco Rocha alongside Sutherland model Maxim Budnick absolutely blew us away in these stunning pictures wearing some of the latest styles by Hugo Boss, Ann Taylor, LOFT, and Ted Baker London.

Julie and I are also really excited about the new Joey’s Restaurant opening up right next to Holt Renfrew! The next hot spot for a girls night out or a martini after a long day of holiday shopping. The expansion grand opening on Nov.16th is just a promise of more to come! Doors are set to open at 6am on Friday, and the first 100 visitors will receive a $50 Yorkdale gift card 🙂
Where can you be inspired on November.16th?

Happy shopping!

Better early than never…wait

23 Oct

Friends!

Let me start off by apologizing for my absence. I have been pretty sick for around 2 weeks with a terrible cold which then turned into a throat infection. I completely lost my voice and I have been on the road to recovery and back to being myself! It was fate that my voice came back to me, and I was feeling much better just in time for me to celebrate my birthday yesterday. My birthday is actually in December, and to make quite a long story short – I decided last year, after many years of stressful planning, booking time off, and freezing cold nights waiting in line at a nightclub in the middle of December that I was going to celebrate my birthday away from the holiday season this year. Not only is December a very busy time of the year for myself (and everyone I know), but it’s proven to be a very expensive one as well. My beau’s birthday is on December.4th followed by mine on the 10th, and Christmas is not too far behind after that.

I spent some time searching for the perfect venue to have dinner with some of my closest friends at Local Restaurant & Lounge was the perfect choice. The atmosphere was exactly what I had envisioned with beautiful lighting, classic, clean design, mixed with elements such as a brick wall backdrop, leather seating and dark wooden fixtures. The menu had a great, simple selection that catered to every taste; might I add that the food was absolutely delicious. (J and I had the steak!) Shortly after midnight, the dinner tables are cleared out and made way for a dancefloor. Before our eyes, this restaurant turned into one of the best “clubs” we had ever been to together. The music was amazing, the crowd was eclectic with everyone from young professionals, to your industry folk who drop in for a bottle of grey goose, down to your up and coming 20 somethings who frequent Local on a Saturday night for a good time. It was definitely a birthday to remember and a spot I plan to revisit!

In Between the Lines

12 Aug

Finally !

Julie and I were able to get together and although we didn’t catch the sun’s absolute best side, we made do. The both of us have been so busy working and this little photo sesh was a breath of fresh air. It was an absolute coincidence that both of us showed up wearing black and white. (I’m not kidding..) Great minds really do think alike huh?

15 Jul

Julie and I always try our best to get together when we can, and the past 2 visits have definitely involved shopping and nails. We took advantage of this gorgeous Saturday, cruised around, got a mani/pedi, did some shopping and finally got to hang out at the new Illy at Yorkdale’s Dine on 3 food court for lattes.. I love the diversity of our outfits. Julie in the most adorable of Peter pan collared tops paired with edgy high-waisted shorts and myself in a houndstooth print shift dress I didn’t think I’d get to wear til fall. From simple black & white to fab with the touch of a teal bubble statement necklace. Never be afraid to mix prints and colors. Your style is what you make it!
