J & K at Toronto Fashion Week – David Dixon F/W 2013

30 Mar

Loves!

This was our first time at Toronto Fashion Week, our first time attending a fashion show of this magnitude, and our first time really getting out there and talking to SO many bloggers, stylists, buyers, merchandisers, and just down right amazing people! Such a rush!

We were lucky enough to attend the shows on both Day 2 and Day 5, thanks to a very good friend of ours Catherine. After a bit of a taste, you can only imagine how zealous we were that we weren’t able to be in attendance the entire week. None the less, here are a few shots of us at the tents! Out of the designers we saw, one of the first and also one of our favourites was David Dixon!

David Dixon was all about women empowerment! The show began with a video where a woman was frowned upon when making a comment in regards to the gentlemen’s conversation. Showcasing that women should not speak for we do not know half of what men know. Men are smarter than us but then the screen shatters and says ‘bullshit!’ It was probably one of the best openings I (J) saw from all the shows that we watched. The one aspect that really popped from Dixon’s show was the neck feature of all the feathers! I absolutely adored it! I could really see this being a trend for next fall. I know I’ll be rocking it! ūüôā

David Dixon’s show was definitely very empowering. The music was enticing (insert Run The World by Beyonce here) and the models looked and felt so comfortable and sexy in his clothing. The strong lines of blacks and whites, the pop of cobalt blue, and who can forget about those stunning crystalized accessories in everything from earrings, ear cuffs, necklaces and bracelets. Such a fantastic finishing touch to these sophisticated, yet edgy looks. Here are a few shots of us enjoying the tents after the show ūüôā

Boyfriend Jean Obsesed

27 Mar

Friends,

I’m well aware that this isn’t a new trend, but I am loving it with a whole new appreciation this time around. I love laid back styles while still looking chic as ever. The boyfriend jean¬†– in my opinion – is the epitome of that. Especially in these cooler times while we wait for the Spring and Summer season to bless us with warmth. There is a perfect boyfriend jean out there for everyone, it just takes a bit of searching and a bit of an open mind. Boyfriend jeans with a loose tee,¬†and Oxford shoes or sneakers are perfect for running errands, throw on some pumps, switch out the top, and you’re ready for drinks with the girls. How do you style your boyfriend jeans?

College

23 Jan

Hello, hello!

We headed down to College Street a few days ago on what we thought at the time, was one of the coldest days of the year, for a little lunch and window shopping. We were lucky enough to catch the last of the sunlight and got a few shots in with our new Canon T3i camera. What do you think? College Street, quite specifically Little Italy, is one of our favorite areas in Toronto; known for locally owned shops, boutiques and of course restaurants. Some of our favorites are below

One of the best brunch spots I (K) know? – Aunties & Uncles (cheap, cheerful & delicious- on a Sunday morning around 11am? Expect a bit of line up)

How about some of the best corn on the cob you’ll ever taste? La Carnita’s is a must (GREAT street art decor!)

Don’t have much going on Friday night? Head over to Riva Supper Lounge for a fabulous night out with friends! Great place for some Italian cuisine with exposed brick interior, then head to the back room where booths are set up and the DJ plays the best Top 40 and Trance!

Of course, we can’t forget about the best gelato in the city at Dolce Gelato (Cream Cacao for J and Pistachio for K)

Looking to have a cosmo with the girls? Head over to Eat My Martini

Where are some of your favorite spots on College?

The bloody holidays

7 Dec

Did I throw you off with the title there? At least it caught your attention. I think of a bitter old Scrooge who lives in England scoffing to himself while saying “Oh, the bloody holidays” whilst passing by children building a snowman. I have a bit of an imagination to say the least.

This title however, is in reference to the color oxblood which has been on everyone’s radar this season, not only when fall crept around but right now in the swing of the holiday season. I’ve been loving oxblood everything. Clothing, accessories, lips, nails, you name it! I especially like pairing a dark color with something quite light such as this fab casual, loose knit sweater from Loft. I knew Loft and¬†I would become besties as soon as it opened at Yorkdale. (You can read about it here).

I was able to get a few shots in while doing some holiday shopping. It wasn’t too cold out, so it was perfect trench weather. I love the contrast of the brown and black with these oxblood trousers. I also managed to snag a shot in front of the Swarovski tree at Yorkdale.

Here’s wishing you a Happy Holiday!

27 Oct

Hey hey hey!

I had these photos taken last¬†Sunday when the beau was in town. It was late morning, and we were heading down to Yorkdale to do a bit of shopping. I’ve noticed in the most recent of days that the leaves were starting to turn from beautiful yellows and oranges to dark browns and to say the least – miserable black specks of what once was. Winter is really creeping up on us! I’ve been loving dark denim, simple tops or sweaters with chunky, long cardigans and boots. (I ordered these boots on JustFab.com and I am obsessed!) I’m also absolutely smitten with this MK cross body purse that Julie gifted me for my birthday (kind of love her..!) What better to top this all off than a red matte lip?

This “Ruby Woo” lipstick from MAC has been an obsession of J and I ever since we hit the counter at The Bay. Slapping this red lip on instantly picked this outfit up and brought it to life.

Just checking in

3 Oct

I had yesterday and today off to spend time with my beau. He ended up having to work a double shift before making the 12 hour journey over to see me, but we both couldn’t have been happier when he arrived.

Work has been getting to the both of us and we each happend to catch a cold at the same time, oddly enough. Yesterday was surprisingly warm, warm enough for me to wear this sleeveless tee without a sweater or blazer out! I was quite pleased, and wasn’t expecting to have any pics taken, but my biggest fan snuck some shots in ūüėČ I rocked this new tweed style blazer from H&M for the evening. I have class on Tuesday nights and we went to see a late movie, so I knew I’d need it not only for the chilly theatre, but for the commute home. In fact, in an attempt to jazz this blazer up, I’m on the hunt for a jeweled brooch to place on the lapel. It would make a world of difference in how I can transition this blazer from work to play.Once downtown, we ended up seeing End of Watch starring Jake Gyllenhall, and it was really intense! Def a reccommendation. I also stepped it up a bit from the casual, and wore these heeled booties I picked up from TJ Maxx when I was in New York. What have you guys been upto?

South Orange + New Hair !

24 Sep

I headed down to New Jersey to visit the beau for a few days and whenever I get the chance, I love to take a drive down to South Orange. I love the old, homey feel of the neighbourhood, the brick buildings, the old signage, the small vintage shops, even the Starbucks down there is very cozy with old maps of the neighbourhood on the wall and a 1950’s US mailbox as a fixture by the door. The streets are tree-lined which I love, and everyone is very friendly and accommodating.¬†Fall is¬†most definitely with us now, and the morning was a bit chilly but when the sun came out, I¬†found myself not needing the boyfriend blazer I had planned to wear out.
Have you noticed? I went back to a brunette ! Well, sort of. I’ve been a red-head¬†for close to 5 years now and don’t get me wrong,¬†I love being a ginger. I love the way¬†red hair suits¬†my complexion and I love being the unexpected red-head in the crowd, however I’d been wanting to get back a shade of brown for some time now, and what better time than the fall? My hair stylist was so surprised, and didn’t want to let go of all the red just yet, so he gave me this beautiful warm cognac color which I am smitten with. The day I had it done, I was shocked every time I looked in the mirror! I couldn’t believe it was so much darker! What do you guys think?

In Between the Lines

12 Aug

Finally !

Julie and I were able to get together and although we didn’t catch the sun’s absolute best side, we made do. The both of us have been so busy working and this little photo sesh was a breath of fresh air. It was an absolute coincidence that both of us showed up wearing black and white. (I’m not kidding..) Great minds really do think alike huh?
