It’s been awhile..

Friends!

How can we begin to apologize for our absence? Telling you we’ve both been busy would be an understatement. We haven’t had much of a social life, and have had such a hard time even making time to see each other! The summer weather was hiding from us over here in Toronto for the longest time making photo ops difficult to schedule, and working overtime has become the norm. We’ve been grinding as much as we could in preparation for this trip we’re taking! If any of you follow us on Twitter, you’ll know that Julie and I are going to Paris & Barcelona this month! We actually leave in a few days! It is our first time to both cities, and we are overwhelmingly excited to share our experiences with you!

Working so much has definitely put its wear on us, and we can’t wait to have some much-needed time off, and get back to posting! With less than a week away before our trip, like any girl, we have been constantly thinking of what to wear, when to wear it, what to bring, where to go, what to see, what to skip. Luggage, beauty essentials, tickets, boarding passes, passports, double-check tickets, get nails done, get hair done…whoo. Add on a full on work week, studying, eating, gymming, emails, meetings….and somewhere we manage to fit in sleep. Julie and I miss seeing each other more often, and the both of us are looking forward to spending a lot of gal time together on vacation. This is a trip of a lifetime that we have been talking about forever, and it’s finally here.

Just wanted to drop a note to let you know that we’re sticking around, and we miss you. How are you?!

More posts are on their way! TTYL

Style Feature – Oscar De La Renta & Spring 2013

18 Jan

So? Thoughts? Here are just a few pieces of Oscar De La Renta’s Spring 2013 line.  At first glance, there isn’t anything that is absolutely mind-blowing, but then again we are talking La Renta here, not Lady Gaga. The Spring ’13 line brings a mix of a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. High waisted skirts, reminiscent of the 1960’s, however he’s skipped out on the greys and threw on bold colors such as fuchsia and canary yellow, as well as vivid patterns that can easily get you noticed at the Vogue offices come Monday morning. (Then again, you’d have to dress to be noticed every single day at the Vogue offices..talk about pressure)

Oscar de la Renta, originally from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic,  grew up in a middle class household alongside 6 sisters. At the ripe age of 18, he found a passion for painting and left for Madrid. Oscar had initially dreamt of becoming an abstract painter, (perhaps a modern-day Picasso?) however could not resist the lure of fashion design and his illustrations quickly opened doors and windows for him, when he landed an apprenticeship with Cristobal Balenciaga. Cristobal clearly made an impression on him, taught him all the tricks of the trade, because it wasn’t too much later that Oscar landed a position as a couture assistant at Lanvin in Paris in 1961. (Oh hey, I’m friends with Cristobal Balenciaga and Jeanne Lanvin, no biggie)

De la Renta also served as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America for  5 years, and was lucky enough to meet his first wife Francoise de Langlade in 1967. Francoise was the editor-in-chief of French Vogue at the time and introduced her husband to the most influential members of the fashion society. (Talk about who you know!)

By the time the early 2000’s rolled around,  de la Renta’s designs had become the preferred wear of the American first ladies, with the likes of Nancy Reagan and Laura Bush.  Oscar de la Renta was behind the designs of the haute couture collection for the house of Balmain, which made him the first Dominican to design for a French couture house. With so many hats on, de la Renta has never forgotten his roots, or where he came from; founding the Casa del Nino Orphanage in La Romana,  and remaining to this day an Ambassador-At-Large of the Dominican Republic, he continues to give back.

Oscar de la Renta is a big fan of ruffles, luxurious fabrics, color, and of course gowns and evening wear -Hello! Jessica Alba at the Golden Globes! A personal favorite of well known celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker (she was on this little show called Sex and The City, have you heard of it? Haha), Anna Wintour, Julianne Moore and Penelope Cruz.  His classic designs alongside his inspiration from the arts reflect in his work, and his newest collection shows just that! What are your favorite pieces?
